President: CWO Nathan Wissman

The Southern California Chapter sponsored Mr. Ewalt Shatz, Pearl Harbor survivor at the
75th anniversary ceremony held at the USS IOWA in San Pedro, CA.

Mr. Shatz was 18-years-old, assigned to USS PATTERSON in Pearl Harbor. On
December 7, 1941 he witnessed the Japanese attack and mounted one of the
ship’s 50 caliber guns. It was the first time he had ever operated the gun, and he
actually shot down one of the planes!

So. Cal Chapter President CWO Nathan Wissmann was Mr. Shatz chaperone during
his stay and ensured that he was taken care of, provided transportation, but
above all made ensured that Mr. Shatz had a memorable and enjoyable stay.
