The December meeting of the Sun Coast Chapter of the U.S. Coast Guard Chief
Warrant Officers Association was held at the home of David and Pat Daniels on
Monday December 17th.
The following members and guests attended:
Knut and Akemi Berland, David and Pat Daniels, Stan and Peg Porter,
Bill and Carol Reetz, Carl and Sue Seale, Okie and Diane Thorngren,
John and Mary Trombitas, Joe and Peggy Whalen.
This was our social gathering for the Christmas holiday, a ham and turkey dinner
was prepared by Pat and David with sumptuous spread of side dishes and deserts.
As usual too much was consumed by all.
From the President:
Note to all in the St Petersburg area – Monday January 28th will be the
Blackthorn Memorial Service at 11:00 AM Blackthorn Park (North End Sunshine
Skyway Rest Area I 275)
On December 5th I attended the CWOA Christmas Party in Washington DC. There were
approximately 75 members and guests present over the 2-1/2 hour open house. The
commandant sent his regrets at being unable to attend however Admiral Papp the
Chief of Staff did attend, along with several other senior officers. On Thursday
the 6th I attended the quarterly general membership meeting along with 12 other
CWO’s. This meeting was followed by a meeting of the Permanent Finance Committee
and finally a Board of Directors Meeting. To celebrate my attending the local
members arranged for over 3 inches of snow and ice between Wednesday afternoon
and Thursday morning!
The new carpeting has been installed in the barge on both decks and looks great.
After the donation from Gruman our total cost for the replacement was under
$400.
On a somber note again I regret to report that a Sun Coast Chapter member has
passed over the bar this past month: CWO4 Bill Shoolbred Jr. Deceased 12/09/07

This Months Joke:
A man owned a small farm in Indiana .
The Indiana State Wage & Hour Department claimed he was not paying proper wages
to his help and sent an agent out to interview him.
"I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them," Demanded the agent.
" Well," replied the farmer, "there's my farm hand who's been with me for 3
years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board.
The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $150 per week plus free room
and board.
Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90%
of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and
board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night. He also sleeps
with my wife occasionally."
"That's the guy I want to talk to --- the half-wit," says the agent.
"That would be me," replied the farmer. |
